Build community relationships and trust through telling your agency's story. Strategize your use of social media.
About this Event

The most successful government agencies are using public messaging proactively to build positive relationships with their communities long before any crisis strikes. Designed for PIOs and leaders who oversee the public message, this fast-paced, engaging, two days of training takes students through the use of social media strategies to tell their agency’s story and interacting with the traditional media to amplify their message. Topics include:

  • Messaging in Real Time through Social Media (with case study)
  • Managing Misinformation Online and in the Media
  • Recognizing Good News Stories that Resonate
  • Proven Social Media Strategies
  • Navigating Negativity
  • Building Mutually Beneficial Relationships with the Media
  • Understanding Legal Considerations for Government Social Media
  • Practical Exercises

Telling your agency's good news story benefits the agency and the community it serves. Simultaneously there are things you can be doing to prepare for the inevitable crisis. Spend two days learning from Emilie (Voss) Eager and Ashley (James) Wilson, who have proven success managing social media and media relations to build trust through engagement.

Ashley is an award-winning journalist specializing in media trainin, effective public speaking, and social media. She most recently anchored Good Morning Maryland in Baltimore. Ashley also worked for the Fox News Channel and local stations in Salisbury, Maryland, and Toledo, Ohio. In Toledo, she was responsible for a weekly franchise called “Most Wanted Wednesday,” which helped law enforcement catch upwards of 100 suspects. Ashley has an M.B.A. with a concentration in Homeland Security.

Emilie brings a diverse background, merging her media, law enforcement and public relations expertise. Previously, Julie Parker hired her to help lead the Media Relations Bureau for the Fairfax County Police Department in Virginia. While there she graduated from the PERF Senior Management Institute for Police. She was also honored as a 3-time Emmy award winning journalist during an extensive broadcast career. Emilie joins Julie Parker Communications after overseeing public relations for CARFAX, a leading brand in automotive.

Training certificates are sent upon completion.
