About this Event

Sturt Avenue is an indie folk family band led by SCALA award winning singer/songwriter Bryn Soden. Hailing from the Adelaide hills, Bryn has been writing and recording for the majority of his twenties, amassing a sizable collection of melancholic indie folk songs crafted to shine a soft light on the quiet sorrow and stubborn defiance of humankind. Supporting him in this endeavour is a cast of family and dear friends, including Bryn’s dad John, who supplies harmonies as well as lapsteel and lead guitar, and his dear friends Bryce Lehmann on drums, Isaac Kerr on bass, and Dave Thompson on accordion.

The music of Sturt Avenue is built from this strong foundation of familial bonds and dear friendships, covering themes of love, loss, and a strange nostalgia for better days that never really existed.

In 2021, Sturt Avenue released their debut LP, “How Do You Think It Should Be?”, playing multiple sold out shows in support of this release. The lead single ‘Lions’ received national airplay, and the full album also received extensive local radio support, with multiple placements on both Radio Adelaide and Three D Radio’s weekly most played lists, including number 1 placements on both. On top of this, the band has been shortlisted twice for the People’s Choice Blues and Roots artist at the SA Music Awards. The band are currently working on their second LP, with singles to be released through 2022.

Supporting Stuart Avenue is Lucan Laufen and Eyrie!

Lucan Laufen

Laufen’s music is the sort that makes us stop and breathe: sombre falsetto melodies married to shimmering guitar; elemental orchestrations that yearn and plunge – the coastal poetry of the wild Australian imaginary.

Eyrie

While EYRIE is an indie folk band making music on Kaurna land. Comprising of sister duo Clara and Miranda Gillam Grant, violinist Thea Martin and double bassist Allan McBean, they hope to bring the storytelling tradition of folk to the Adelaide music scene.
