Academy Award-winning director Kathryn Bigelow’s visionary sci-fi thriller is set amid the chaos of Los Angeles on the eve of the new millennium. Former cop turned black-market hustler Lenny Nero (Ralph Fiennes) makes his living dealing illegal “playback” clips—virtual-reality recordings that let users experience another person’s memories and sensations. Still hung up on his ex-lover Faith (Juliette Lewis), Lenny drifts through the city’s unrest until he receives a terrifying clip capturing a real murder. With the help of his bodyguard friend Mace (Angela Bassett), he’s thrust into a violent conspiracy that reaches deep into the police force he once served.
