Just 7 years after landing an internship with Northwestern Mutual as a college student, Williams launched a new office of the giant insurer and wealth manager. Williams leads a team of 4 representatives and 4 other staff members who opened the new office in New York City on Feb. 19, he said in an interview. Williams aims to make it “a pillar of the Harlem community” by offering employment to area college students who often don’t get as many opportunities as he did while attending Howard University, he says. The Bronx native has a lifelong interest in personal finance.
Maria Granville; Founder & Owner of Home to Harlem
Maria is the Founder and President of Madisyn Consulting Services, Inc., a highly successful NYS M/WBE technology consulting company that she launched in 1990. With a focus on helping organizations align their technology strategies with their business objectives, Maria has built a thriving career spanning over three decades. Her journey began after she received a B.A. in Economics, with a minor in Mathematics, from Syracuse University. She gained valuable financial, project management, and resource management expertise during her tenure at Wang Laboratories, Inc. This experience laid the foundation for her to manage projects with budgets exceeding $50 million for industry leaders such as Deutsche Bank, Goldman Sachs, Dresdner Bank, Westdeutsche Landesbank, Columbia University, and Marsh and McLennan Insurance, among others.
Louis Johnson Jr.; GM of Harlem Haberdashery
Louis Johnson Jr. is a renowned figure in the fashion industry, widely recognized for his role at Harlem Haberdashery, a fashion boutique celebrated for capturing the essence of Harlem's rich cultural heritage. As an integral part of the style collective alongside Guy Wood Sr. and Kells Barnett, Johnson leverages his deep-rooted connection to the craft of fashion, inherited from a family legacy in the garment industry. Beyond his creative prowess as the "accessory king" and a "style god," Johnson is deeply committed to philanthropy, spearheading initiatives through The League: A Distinguished Gentlemen’s Movement, Inc., and #TakeCareOfHarlem. His life’s work beautifully intertwines his passion for fashion with an unwavering dedication to community upliftment, marking him as a beacon of Black excellence and a true embodiment of a BE Modern Man.
Riley Jones, IV; Co-Founder of Sector Software | Forbes 30 under 30 | Social Entrepreneur
A native Chicagoan, Riley Jones, IV is a social entrepreneur in the field of education. He is a Co-Founder of Sector Software, an organization using technology to create and facilitate opportunity pathways for the new economy. This work garnered him recognition as a Forbes 30 Under 30 Social Entrepreneur and SOCAP Scholar. He currently serves CityBridge Education as Director of Ventures, supporting entrepreneurial work in the field of education and workforce development. In 2021, he was appointed as Professor of Practice and Robin Richards Donohoe Social Entrepreneur in Residence at the University of North Carolina- Chapel Hill. He received a B.A. from Columbia University in Political Science, a Masters of Science in Education Entrepreneurship from the University of Pennsylvania and a J.D. from New York University School of Law. His board involvement includes being the President of the Black Alumni Council of Columbia University and a Founding Advisory Board Member for Democracy Prep Public Schools advising on racial equity and restorative justice. In his free time, Riley is an accomplished singer having performed at venues all over the United States.
