What parents need to know about substances, the developing adolescent brain, and having honest, effective conversations at home.
About this Event

Many of us have been meaning to have this conversation with our teens—and keep putting it off. After reviewing this year's high school Authentic Connections survey data (nicotine and vaping up, alcohol rising, marijuana holding steady), our students asked us how we can support our parents in navigating this sometimes tricky conversation with confidence.

Mary Romano, MD, MPH, of Vanderbilt will explain how these substances affect the adolescent brain and body—clearly, without alarmism or euphemism. Rachel Holloway, LPC-MHSP, who works with adolescents and families, will share practical strategies for starting the conversation, setting boundaries, and responding when rules are broken.
