Description:
A local favorite, the ride from Stough to the highpoint of the Verdugo Mountains starts off steep, but gets ever gentler as you proceed. The route is all on well-maintained dirt roads.
When you get to the summit, you know you’ve earned the 360° views of the San Gabriel Mountains; the San Fernando and Crescenta Valleys; Glendale, Burbank, and Los Angeles; the Hollywood Hills and Santa Monica Mountains; and on clear days the ocean, Santa Catalina Island, and occasionally, even Saint Nicholas Island.
Let’s meet near the north end of Walnut Ave. since the gate might be closed. We’ll park below it, beside the upper end of the golf course, about a ¼-mile before the nature center. Details below.
Directions:
- From I-5 southbound- exit Empire; follow the signs for San Fernando Rd and head south. At Delaware Rd, turn left. The first intersection is with Glenoaks Blvd, turn right. The first street on your left is Walnut, turn left. Drive through the residential area then to the top of the golf course where the road widens to allow easy turning. You have arrived.
- From I-5 northbound- exit Burbank and drive until the road ends in front of Burbank High School. At Delaware Rd, turn right. The first intersection is with Glenoaks Blvd, turn right. The first street on your left is Walnut, turn left. Drive through the residential area then to the top of the golf course where the road widens to allow easy turning. You have arrived.
