May Book of the Month: The Correspondent Author: Virginia Evans

Celebrate the joy of creativity and the art of storytelling with our May Book Club pick: The Correspondent by Virginia Evans.

Step into a world of mystery and connection with this atmospheric novel. As we unravel the layers of the story, we’re also turning our focus to the things we create with our own hands. Our theme this month is Show and Tell: Embracing Hobbies & Craft. Alongside our book chat, we’ll spend time stitching a custom embroidery patch onto our dedicated Storytime Stitching hoodie—a creative keepsake that grows with every book we read!

The May Theme: Show and Tell

This month, we want to celebrate our beautiful love for books and our passion for making. We encourage everyone to bring along another hobby or craft you enjoy!

Whether it’s a finished project you’re proud of, a "work-in-progress" you’re currently chipping away at, or a fun tik tok trend you’ve bought all the tools for but not quite started, we’d love to see it. There is absolutely no pressure to bring something to share, but the floor is open for anyone who wants to celebrate their latest "hyperfixations" with the group.

🪡 How It Works

Whether you’re brand new to embroidery or already love crafting, you’ll have the freedom to choose your own design—with inspiration, guidance, and tools provided to bring your ideas to life. This is less about being “experts” and more about enjoying time together as cosy crafters and page-turning pals.

💌 Before your first session, you’ll receive an email with:

  • Video guides and embroidery tips
  • Recommendations to get you started
  • A warm welcome into our community of fellow readers and makers

🌸 Your one-time joining cost includes:

  • A custom Storytime Stitching hoodie (your book club canvas!)
  • An embroidery starter pack (threads, needles, scissors, and hoop)
  • A book club starter pack (gel pen, tracking bookmark, note tabs, stickers, and a roomy tote bag)
  • Attendance at your first meeting, complete with a cosy venue, tea, coffee, light snacks, and access to every colour thread imaginable!
  • The book of the month picked up from Booklover bookshop.

🌼 Ongoing cost: After your first meeting, each session is just $45. This covers the venue, snacks, and continued access to all tools and threads. It also includes the book of the month from Booklover bookshop; alternatively, you can choose any other book in the shop up to the value of $40. There’s no pressure to attend every month; come along whenever you can!
