With Scottish storyteller 𝗔𝗻𝗻𝗲 𝗣𝗶𝘁𝗰𝗵𝗲𝗿, embark on a day of interactive, participative learning right in the heart of Aberdeen University’s Zoology. 𝗕𝗿𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝘆𝗼𝘂𝗿 𝗼𝘄𝗻 𝗽𝘂𝗽𝗽𝗲𝘁 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗷𝗼𝗶𝗻 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗳𝘂𝗻!
👀 𝗢𝗯𝘀𝗲𝗿𝘃𝗲 𝗔𝗻𝗻𝗲 𝗶𝗻 𝗮𝗰𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻
As part of the workshop, participants will have the opportunity to attend Anne's family storytelling performance at the Zoology Museum 𝗮𝘀 𝗼𝗯𝘀𝗲𝗿𝘃𝗲𝗿𝘀, watching how she brings stories of birds and beasties to life for a young audience.
The session combines storytelling with 𝘀𝗶𝗻𝗴-𝗮𝗹𝗼𝗻𝗴 𝘀𝗼𝗻𝗴𝘀, 𝗾𝘂𝗶𝗿𝗸𝘆 𝘀𝗼𝘂𝗻𝗱-𝗺𝗮𝗸𝗲𝗿𝘀 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗔𝗻𝗻𝗲'𝘀 𝗹𝗶𝘃𝗲𝗹𝘆 𝗯𝗶𝗿𝗱 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗯𝗲𝗮𝘀𝘁𝗶𝗲 𝗽𝘂𝗽𝗽𝗲𝘁𝘀, giving participants the chance to observe different ways of engaging children through story.
This will be followed by workshop activities and discussion with Anne, offering an opportunity to reflect on what participants have observed, gain insights into the craft of storytelling and explore practical approaches to working with 𝘀𝘁𝗼𝗿𝗶𝗲𝘀, 𝗰𝗵𝗶𝗹𝗱𝗿𝗲𝗻 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗽𝘂𝗽𝗽𝗲𝘁𝘀.
✨ 𝗔𝗯𝗼𝘂𝘁 𝗔𝗻𝗻𝗲 𝗣𝗶𝘁𝗰𝗵𝗲𝗿
Anne Pitcher is an experienced Scottish storyteller and storytelling trainer, and a Board member of the 𝗦𝗰𝗼𝘁𝘁𝗶𝘀𝗵 𝗦𝘁𝗼𝗿𝘆𝘁𝗲𝗹𝗹𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗙𝗼𝗿𝘂𝗺, which is at the heart of storytelling nationally and internationally. She is on the 𝗦𝗰𝗼𝘁𝘁𝗶𝘀𝗵 𝗕𝗼𝗼𝗸 𝗧𝗿𝘂𝘀𝘁 directory as both an author and oral storyteller, and is an Accredited Trainer for 𝗦𝗶𝗺𝗽𝗹𝘆 𝗧𝗵𝗲 𝗦𝘁𝗼𝗿𝘆 in oral Biblical storytelling. She is also a key member of the 𝗚𝗹𝗮𝘀𝗴𝗼𝘄 𝗕𝗲𝘁𝘁𝗲𝗿 𝗖𝗿𝗮𝗰𝗸 𝗖𝗹𝘂𝗯, which meets once a month.
For 18 years Anne has performed at the annual 𝗦𝗰𝗼𝘁𝘁𝗶𝘀𝗵 𝗜𝗻𝘁𝗲𝗿𝗻𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻𝗮𝗹 𝗦𝘁𝗼𝗿𝘆𝘁𝗲𝗹𝗹𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗙𝗲𝘀𝘁𝗶𝘃𝗮𝗹 and the 𝗦𝗰𝗼𝘁𝘁𝗶𝘀𝗵 𝗦𝘁𝗼𝗿𝘆 𝗥𝗶𝗽𝗽𝗹𝗲.
A keen world traveller, Anne has told and gathered stories in different countries at festivals, community groups, schools, nurseries and churches, from 𝗡𝗲𝘄 𝗭𝗲𝗮𝗹𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝘁𝗼 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗔𝗿𝗰𝘁𝗶𝗰 𝗖𝗶𝗿𝗰𝗹𝗲, both outdoors and indoors.
From 2022–23, Anne worked as Creative Fieldworker for the 𝗧𝗥𝗔𝗖𝗦 𝗣𝗲𝗼𝗽𝗹𝗲’𝘀 𝗣𝗮𝗿𝗶𝘀𝗵 project in West Dunbarton, researching and retelling stories with, for and to local people — an experience she describes as wonderful.
Alongside her performance and research work, Anne teaches the 𝗔𝗿𝘁 𝗼𝗳 𝗦𝘁𝗼𝗿𝘆𝘁𝗲𝗹𝗹𝗶𝗻𝗴 in a wide range of settings and with diverse groups of people.
Often joining Anne are some of her 𝟲𝟬𝟬 𝗽𝘂𝗽𝗽𝗲𝘁𝘀, a multitude of props and music makers, which she uses in an interactive, participative and quirky way.
Above all, Anne loves to bring stories alive, giving a sense of place and time and engaging all the senses so that you see, hear, touch, smell and even taste the tale. As the Traveller proverb says, she tells stories 𝗘𝘆𝗲 𝘁𝗼 𝗲𝘆𝗲, 𝗵𝗲𝗮𝗿𝘁 𝘁𝗼 𝗵𝗲𝗮𝗿𝘁, 𝗺𝗶𝗻𝗱 𝘁𝗼 𝗺𝗶𝗻𝗱.

The workshop is for 𝗮𝗱𝘂𝗹𝘁𝘀 and is aimed at 𝘀𝘁𝗼𝗿𝘆𝘁𝗲𝗹𝗹𝗲𝗿𝘀 𝗼𝗳 𝗮𝗹𝗹 𝗹𝗲𝘃𝗲𝗹𝘀, including emerging storytellers and storytelling apprentices, as well as 𝘁𝗲𝗮𝗰𝗵𝗲𝗿𝘀, 𝗹𝗶𝗯𝗿𝗮𝗿𝗶𝗮𝗻𝘀 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗼𝘁𝗵𝗲𝗿𝘀 𝘄𝗵𝗼 𝘄𝗼𝗿𝗸 𝘄𝗶𝘁𝗵 𝗰𝗵𝗶𝗹𝗱𝗿𝗲𝗻 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝘂𝘀𝗲 𝘀𝘁𝗼𝗿𝗶𝗲𝘀 𝗶𝗻 𝘁𝗵𝗲𝗶𝗿 𝗽𝗿𝗮𝗰𝘁𝗶𝗰𝗲.
It will be particularly relevant to anyone interested in 𝗱𝗲𝘃𝗲𝗹𝗼𝗽𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝘁𝗵𝗲𝗶𝗿 𝘀𝘁𝗼𝗿𝘆𝘁𝗲𝗹𝗹𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗰𝗿𝗮𝗳𝘁, learning more about 𝗲𝗻𝗴𝗮𝗴𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗰𝗵𝗶𝗹𝗱𝗿𝗲𝗻 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗳𝗮𝗺𝗶𝗹𝘆 𝗮𝘂𝗱𝗶𝗲𝗻𝗰𝗲𝘀, or exploring how 𝗽𝘂𝗽𝗽𝗲𝘁𝘀 can be introduced and used in storytelling.
No previous experience of working with puppets is required.
