About this Event
Join us for Storytelling with Native Plants, an immersive and educational workshop led by Greg Brezicki—a retired teacher, Master Naturalist, trail guide, devoted nature enthusiast, and volunteer with Big Waters Land Trust.
This engaging workshop offers a unique way to connect with Florida’s native flora through a blend of plant identification, storytelling, and guided exploration. Participants will begin indoors with a lecture and visual presentation of native plant species, learning key features to help identify them in the wild. Each plant will be paired with a story—whether cultural, ecological, or personal—that makes the learning experience memorable and meaningful.
After the presentation, Greg will lead a guided walk at Bay Preserve, where participants will search for the plants discussed and practice identification in a real-world setting. The stories shared along the way will deepen your connection to the landscape and reinforce your plant knowledge.
The goal of the workshop is to help participants confidently recognize and remember at least 15 native plant species. This is a perfect program for formal and informal educators, native plant lovers, naturalists, and anyone passionate about sharing nature with others.
Come prepared to walk, observe, learn, and be inspired by the stories that plants have to share.
This program is suitable for adults and teens. This is a lecture-style program that is not suitable for small children.
A $5 dollar donation per person is suggested for this program. Your gift will help us save wild places and continue to engage people in nature. We greatly appreciate your support!
