StoryOly is proud to announce the return of live in-person storytelling slam events and its 2021-2022 season! What: StoryOly a live monthly oral storytelling competition.
When: Third Thursday each month beginning December 16, 2021
Where: The Cryptatropa Bar 421 4th Ave. E Olympia, WA 98501 (adjacent to the Artesian Well downtown)
Time: 7:00pm
Cost: $5-15 at the door, NOTAFLOF (no one turned away for lack of funds) Half of the door proceeds benefit local non-profit organizations
Admission Requirements: Public is required to show proof of COVID 19 vaccination and wear a face covering over nose and mouth for duration of the event.
Details: The general public (21+) is invited to tell a personal true story on stage based on the monthly theme. Each teller is rated by a group of 3 volunteer judges selected from the audience night of event. The winner of each monthly slam wins a cash prize, StoryOly Tee Shirt and qualifies to participate in the StoryOly season finale, The Grand Slam which will take place in September 2022. Stories must be true, 8 minutes or less in duration. Judges are asked to rate each teller on their ability to tell a good story. Did it have a beginning middle and end? Was it compelling? Did you want to know what happened next? They are asked to not judge the teller on their life choices, but merely on their ability to tell a good story.

Background: This begins StoryOly's 7th season. Created in 2015 by Amy Shephard and Elizabeth Lord, modeled after the national storytelling slam event The Moth, StoryOly enjoyed 5 seasons of live storytelling at The Rhythm & Rye venue in downtown Olympia. Due to COVID StoryOly utilized the online platform Zoom for it's 6th season....and unfortunately lost The Rhythm & Rye venue due to the pandemic economic toll. This venue will be greatly missed.
The Cryptatropa welcomed StoryOly. It is a small venue (about a 5th the capacity of Rhythm & Rye) but is very desirable due to its strict vaccination requirement for all patrons.
