The South Sound Story Guild is pleased to present tellers from the Asian American Storytellers in Action. Roopa Mohan, Eleanor Clement Glass and Tobey Anderson will be celebrating Asian American Pacific Islander month with us.

The zoom link will open at 5:30 if you'd like to join early as we are setting up. The story program will start at 6:00. Please join with your video on if possible so we can have a face to face interaction between all story participants. We love to see who is joining us!
We will record the meeting and the link will be on
southsoundstory.org as well as past story events.

Eleanor Clement Glass delights children with folktales from around the world as a Volunteer Storyteller at the Asian Art Museum in San Francisco, a Teaching Artist in the Oakland Public Schools and children’s programs of the Storytelling Association of California. She tells personal family stories from her Black and Filipino cultures at National Storytelling Network conferences and local Bay Area venues. She also contributes stories to Asian American Storytopia, a YOU TUBE channel offering Asian stories and cultural activities by Asian American Storytellers to children from kindergarten to 5th grade, as a way to combat Asian hate. As a cultural ambassador with Eth-noh-tec, she exchanged stories with Storytellers in China and South Korea. She also performed folktales for children and families in Kauai at a north shore Community Center.
Roopa Mohan is a storyteller from Walnut Creek CA. She spent her
childhood in South India, steeped in the rich oral tradition of sacred stories and folktales. After retirement she came upon formal storytelling at the Asian Art Museum, SF where she trained as a docent and storyteller. She now shares multi- genre stories outside the museum, often braiding her childhood memories into them. She is on the board of the Storytelling Assoc of CA and an active member of Asian American Storytellers in Action. She is a Chautauqua scholar and debuted her portrayal of Kasturba Gandhi. She was a featured teller at the 2024 Women’s Storytelling Festival in Virginia. www.roopamohan.com
Tobey Ishii Anderson
“Be careful of what you say. That one has big ears!” Her
aunties would say. Tobey Ishii-Anderson is an avid listener
to stories. Her grandmother would start the stories with
“Mukashi mukashi... Once upon a time” and Tobey has
been held captive with the world of stories ever since. She
loves the folktales from Japan retold at family gatherings.
From listener to being the teller of stories, she has carried
on this family tradition. As a Peace Corps volunteer and
then an international school teacher she has lived in
various countries in Asia and Europe. Tobey has had the
good fortune to gather stories from many diverse cultures.
She is a member of the Asian American Storytellers in
Action and the South Sound Story Guild.
