About this Event
Story Pole Awakening Ceremony
Join us at the Squamish Lil'wat Cultural Centre in Whistler for a special event - the Story Pole Awakening Ceremony! Witness the blessing of a magnificent Story Pole by Lil̓wat7úl Master Carver Jonathan Joe and Apprentice Redmond Q̓áwam̓ Andrews, carved with the rich cultural significance of the Lil̓wat7úl and the Declaration of the Lillooet Tribes.
The Story Pole will stand alongside the House Post carved by Xwalacktun (Sḵwx̱wú7mesh / Kwakwak’wakw / Namgis) and Brandon Hall (Sḵwx̱wú7mesh) in 2023 at the entrance to the SLCC, as Sister Poles bringing authentic representation to the shared territory of the Sḵwx̱wú7mesh and the Lil̓wat7úl.
This in-person gathering will be a unique opportunity to connect with this authentic and memorable experience honouring the carvers and their work and the authentic representation it brings to the territory. While there is no capacity limit we appreciate you sharing your interest in gathering with us on the day, and we can prepare for our guests.
