Stories on a Plate: Cookbook Club | A Feather and A Fork
About this Event
Stories on a Plate is Coastal Table and Tales' potluck-style cookbook club — each month, our community picks a recipe from the featured book, brings it in, and we share a table together.
This month, we're honored to welcome Chef Crystal Wahpepah herself to the table. An enrolled member of the Kickapoo Nation of Oklahoma, Chef Crystal cooks from a simple, powerful belief: food is medicine, memory, and a direct line back to the land it comes from. Her cookbook, A Feather and a Fork, is a celebration of Indigenous foodways — blue corn, bison, huckleberry, chokecherry, wild greens — dishes that carry the stories of the people and places they come from. Recipes like Three Sisters Veggie Bowls, Sweet Blue Cornbread with Huckleberry Compote, Bison Roast with Chokeberry Rub, and Strawberry-Sumac Salad with Maple-Sage Vinaigrette aren't just meals — they're an invitation to slow down and reconnect with where food comes from, season by season, ingredient by ingredient.
Bring a dish from the book, come hungry, and join us for an evening of food, story, and community — with the author herself at the table.
