While most people have heard that the United States is the most incarcerated country in the world, often overlooked is the particular impact incarceration has on women. TRI has been partnering behind the scenes to create a full length documentary about the cycle of trauma and incarceration, looking specifically at how this impacts women, families, and communities. At our event we will watch a 'short' version of the work-in-progress and offer a talk back with the film director, impacted women, and community leaders working with and within the department of corrections.
The Reentry Initiative provides comprehensive services inside and outside of prison walls that empower adults to achieve fulfilling and crime-free lives in our community. TRI’s original program worked specifically with women inside the Denver Women's Correctional Facility (DWCF) in a pre-release program, called TRIumph. Developing relationships while the women are still on the ‘inside’ has proven to assist with the transition when released. While covid has interrupted our ability to meet in person inside the prison, we still maintain wrap-around case services, to both men and women, to address trauma and addiction, while assisting with housing and employment. TRI supports our friends' reentry into our community, so everyone is empowered to have a fulfilling and crime-free life.
