Please join St. James Coffee House for our 1st Stories of Light faith witness series featuring Lucy Bernas sharing her incredible story of courage and perseverance in faith, hope, and love. In 2014 what Lucy thought was a sinus infection turned out to be Stage 3 squamous cell carcinoma . Doctors near her home in North Dakota told Lucy her treatment would include radiation, chemotherapy, and surgery. And that it would forever alter her face. Two near death experiences and four surgeries later Lucy was left with a tracheostomy and a feeding tube, and she could no longer eat or speak. A particularly difficult diagnosis given the fact Lucy loves socializing, is a culinary school trained chef, generous host, and volunteer. In 2015 Lucy came to Mayo Clinic and with 30 surgeries and counting, Lucy continues what she calls her inside and outside beautification journey. As she continues to heal, Lucy has proven to be a healer herself allowing the love of Jesus to shine through her.
