Bring your friends and family to celebrate New Year through sharing stories at an Open Mic.
About this Event

Stories for Oranges, a New Year celebration. Bring your friends and family to celebrate New Year through sharing stories at an Open Mic, through crafts at the Kids Table, and to one other in our Parents Are Human Booth. Our goal is to capture stories from the people that make Chinatown what it is today. Videos, photos, and audio recordings will live in-store to be enjoyed for years to come.

  • The Open Mic topics are family, New Year, and our favorite things about our respective cultures. You can sign up at the event. Speakers will receive a lucky orange for their bravery and storytelling.
  • Special guest, longtime author and advocate, Shizue Seigel will kick off the open mic with a reading from her new book, Courting a Man Who Doesn't Talk.
  • The Kids Table will focus on our heroes. Who are they, and why do they inspire us? These answers will live on a family tree in our store.
  • The Parents Are Human booth will be a private space where you and your loved ones can talk about deeper topics through the Parents Are Human question game. You are welcome to record this for your own family history.
