Join us for an overnight vigil of solidarity with people experiencing homelessness. We will gather outside Wellington Cathedral of St Paul, overlooking Parliament, to express our opposition to the government’s proposed Move-On Orders for people sleeping rough, and to dream, pray and advocate for alternative solutions to homelessness.
Come prepared to listen to others, to play board games and to hear speeches, music and poetry that spark your imagination.
We invite you to stay through the night, so bring a sleeping bag or blanket and come prepared to dwell outside in the cold as we keep vigil and pray for a more compassionate future. There will also be an opportunity to write a letter to politicians asking them to change direction. Everyone is welcome.
Indicative timeframes:
6:00-7:00pm: Soup and sausage sizzle (family friendly)
7:00pm-7:45 Speakers and community leaders
8:00-9:00pm: Poetry and live music, board games available
9pm through the night until 6:30am: Hourly prayers for an end to homelessness; others may talk quietly or attempt to sleep.
6:30-8:00am: Breakfast provided and served to Wellington commuters
Supported by Anglican Diocese of Wellington, Catholic Archdiocese of Wellington, Wellington City Mission, The Salvation Army, St Paul’s Lutheran Church, St John's in the City Presbyterian Church and the Methodist Alliance.
