About this Event
Celebrating Owl Eyes Wilderness Survival's 10th Anniversary!
First aid and awareness are the most important survival skills for wilderness expeditions and urban situations. Join us as we welcome Dustin Titzman of Warrior Kid Medic for this first aid and CPR/AED class. After taking this class, students will be equiped with the skills and knowledge to stop bleeding, care for wounds, splint injuries, handle snake bites, treat burns & blisters, and much more!
This class is geared for homeschool children and teens. First aid is a "must have" skill for anyone and everywhere. Equip your child with the proper skills necessary to handle first aid emergencies with themselves, family, and friends.

Detail
We will cover breathing techniques to regain focus and calm during high stress. Discuss and give several examples of why treating a patient is not always the best first course of action, rather addressing safety is the highest priority. Go in depth into the MARCH assessment developed by the military and used by most FD/EMS. This covers in order of importance “what will K*ll you first.” We will do hands on application of multiple types of tourniquets and techniques. We will cover when and why to use wound packing, how to secure an airway, understanding a pneumothorax (collapsed lung), assessing circulation to determine severity, head injuries and recognizing when it is serious, hypothermia as related to trauma, and treating for shock. We will go through scenarios using both students and a stop-the-bleed dummy. We’ll discuss transport considerations and do hands-on moving techniques. The class will be part lecture and part station breakouts for hands on. This class will be held both indoors and outdoors.
