Gain a deeper appreciation for the stone architecture, monuments, and artwork of Crown Hill Cemetery in this hands-on soapstone carving workshop led by our artist-in-residence, Michael Moskaliuk. Inspired by the wildlife of Crown Hill Cemetery, guests will create their own finished stone sculpture, choosing to carve either a butterfly, hawk, or owl.
The workshop fee includes a pre-cut stone, carving rasp, two sheets of sandpaper, and tung oil—everything needed to complete your sculpture. Carving will take place outdoors using shallow water bins for easy cleanup, so guests are encouraged to dress comfortably for both the weather and hands-on artmaking.
Ages 12 and over only; under 18 should be accompanied by an adult.
PLEASE NOTE: All stone creature selections (butterfly, hawk, or owl) will be on a “first-come, first-served” basis.
Tickets:
$60 per person
No gate sales, tickets must be purchased online
Ticket sales are limited to 15 people
Where to meet: The Waiting Station (large red-brick building), located right inside the Gothic Gate entrance off of 34th Street. Be sure to use this specific address for directions: 3402 Blvd. Place, Indpls, 46208, and arrive 10-15 min. early.
