About this Event
Robert Fripp and the members of prog-rock giants King Crimson look back on 50 years of art, discipline and transcendence in this fascinating, funny and moving film. Fripp, also famous for his work with Bowie and Eno, has overseen a unique creative environment in which freedom and responsibility conspire to place extraordinary demands on the band’s members. On the band’s 50th anniversary tour, we’re privy to conversations with old and new band members – all of whom walk on eggshells around Fripp – alongside roadies, fans and a nun. In the Court of the Crimson King is a dark, comic film for anyone who wonders whether it is worth sacrificing everything for just a single moment of transcendence.
"In the Court of the Crimson King is really about as good as rock documentaries get." – Variety
“A film about King Crimson and all its weirdness might be one of the finest rock documentaries ever made.” – National Review
“A fascinating and deeply funny study of the dynamics of an ageing group, as many members – both past and present – wrestle with their position in the band, and ultimately with Fripp.” – The Quietus
“In the Court of the Crimson King holds the kind of twofold appeal that such docs too rarely muster: you come for the fascinating and touching moments that KC’s hardcore fandom will eat up, but you stay for a more universal, inspirational study of what it is to work or dream to work as an artist.” – In Review Online
