Stoke Newington Burials and Bodies Walk

Come explore unusual bones and burials in this Stoke Newington history tour!

This walk visits three burial grounds, reveals two further ones you probably don’t know about, explores the horrible dead house (and what replaced it) and tells tales of bodies that found themselves in the wrong place.

This is a linear walk which starts inside the Stoke Newington Church Street entrance of Abney Park Cemetery. Please meet me around the area just inside the entrance(see pics below).

The walk takes approx. 2 hours. We will need to start promptly! Recommended age: 15+.

We will be looping up to the far north west corner of Abney Park Cemetery, and then returning to weave around Church Street for the second half of the walk. The walk ends behind St Mary’s Old Churchyard to the west.

I walk in (almost) all weathers, so please do come prepared. Abney Park Cemetery has some very uneven and narrow paths and is muddy after rainfall. Unfortunately this walk is not suitable for most buggies. In the rare event that it looks like the weather will beat us (or the cemetery is closed due to high winds), I will email and reimburse you as soon as I can.

The walk is one of a trilogy of monthly walks hunting for underground buildings, lost, found and imagined objects and bodies, archaeological rivalries, unearthed treasures, cold war bunkers, rumoured tunnels, and legends, myths and things which may (or may not) exist at all – except in the imagination.
