Stockport Philosophy Social

Long Version:

This is a FREE social group for anyone looking to have interesting intentional conversations about life. I will have a topic ready to discuss each week and the general theme is philosophical, but the goal is to have deeper reflective conversations than you would usually have day to day, it is not intended to be academic. While academics and academic discussions are welcome, this group is for anyone who wants to talk about spiritual, intellectual, and practical approaches to life. Anyone is welcome with any education level as long as you are 18+. There is no pressure to talk if you would rather listen and the conversation will hopefully flow organically between the group (or groups depending on numbers). While there will be a seriousness to the topics, I hope the attitude and vibe will be fun and light-hearted – this is not group therapy lol.

My name is Calum (there is a picture of me with a cheesy grin) and while I am organising this, I do not intend to lecture or teach as I am as much of a student as anyone else, I’m just hoping to bring like-minded people together. I will lead conversation as much as I have to but if I can naturally take a back seat as conversation flows, I am happy to do so. I may interject at points for structure and balance, maybe leading some talking points to discuss at intervals, but I am looking to have as equal a contribution as the rest of the group. As I am only just starting this group as of April 2026, there may be some teething problems initially and support and feedback is welcome to help me get this off the ground.

A little bit about me so I don’t seem a complete stranger: I am soon turning 25 (as I said I am not lecturing so don’t worry if you have some years on me), I am a Lancashire lad from the countryside now living in Stockport a couple years, I design Industrial Lighting as a job which I enjoy, I Love football, not a big fan of small talk hence the creation of this group lol, I am quite playful, and I am a big animal lover. My goal here is to have a place available regularly for people to come who are wanting to dive into some deeper topics and can maybe feel alienated (or not) by usual chit chat – I know I do. I look forward to meeting some like-minded people and having fulfilling discussions!

Please get a ticket just so I can organise based on numbers. The location is the Arden Arms near the Asda in Stockport; there is free parking nearby, including the Peel centre after 6pm. Officially the time will be 7-9pm but if you need to show up a bit later then that’s okay, I want to be as accommodating as I can be, but please try and aim for 7 so not everyone shows up late.
