Tango, at its core, is connection. The music we dance to is the breeding ground for that connection; its very purpose is to bring people closer together. And Osvaldo Pugliese’s powerfully beautiful music exerts an almost magnetic pull on people—both on and off the dance floor. It unites people.
????????? ???????? ??????? is the manifestation of the strong binding force that is Pugliese’s music, as musicians, dancers, filmmakers, DJs, writers and other tango lovers from all over the world descend on Kulturhuset, Stockholm, to talk about Pugliese, to play Pugliese’s music, to listen to it and, of course, dance to it.
Over the course of a five-day weekend of workshops, milongas, concerts, seminars, conversations, film screenings, and a special exhibition, we invite both tango dancers and musicians as well as the curious public to (re)discover Pugliese, the music he created and the legacy he’s left behind.
Welcome to Stockholm Pugliese Weekend in Kulturhuset by Sergels Torg, with its glass obelisk that connects us to "El Obelisco" in Buenos Aires, the place where Argentines in the capital come together to celebrate their triumphs and share their pain. The place where the music of Osvaldo Pugliese was born and where it found eternal life.

We’ll round off this head-spinning Facebook description with a short presentation of Osvaldo Pugliese, written for this weekend by Michael Lavocah—the author, researcher, and DJ—who unintentionally catalysed this mayhem by overstimulating a group of nerds in Stockholm.
✨Osvaldo Pugliese✨
Possessed of a wild beauty, the music of the tango orchestra leader Osvaldo Pugliese (Buenos Aires 1905-1995) is the most intense and passionate that tango has ever known. It pulsates with a raw power, but is also sophisticated, modern, and complex. It is nothing less than the alchemical fusion of opposites, the marriage of force and beauty.
His musicians, many of them soloists of remarkable personality and quality, were fully committed to his vision, sticking with him through thick and thin. One of his singers remarked: “There has never been a group of human beings who played with such warmth and affection. On stage they stripped their souls bare, and that drove the people crazy.”
We think of his music as high culture, but for him it was rooted in and nourished by the people. We call him maestro; he called himself a musician, yes, but also a citizen, and a worker like any other. His story is the story of tango itself: born in poverty, at the margins of society, condemned at first by the powerful, but then embraced by an entire city. Thirty years after his death it sounds more modern than ever.
