About this Event
Experience a new way to be immersed in art while making art, and bringing mindfulness and compassion to ourselves and others.
What to expect
- Mindfulness meditation to bring gratitude and connection into our core being and energy reserves.
- Space to work on your art project while being immersed in art and community.
- Loving kindness (metta) to bring compassion to ourselves and to Southwest Asia and North Africa, including Levant (Palestine and surrounding area), Sudan, and Iran.
- Sound journey with an ocean drum and crystal singing bowls to support rest, stress release, and integration.
- An allowing space and trauma-informed practice to be, just as you are.
How it works
- Be guided through a mindfulness practice in an art gallery.
- Work on your fiber art/small-scale art project that can be completed while seated, in your lap.
- Experience a sound bath (crystal bowls, ocean drum), and a loving kindness practice (metta) while you craft.
- You may choose to be seated or lay down on mats as you are comfortable.
- This event will take place within a solo exhibition at Gallery 101 by Palestinian artist Rana Nazzal Hamadeh.

What to bring
- A fiber art project (or other small-scale art) that can be completed while seated, in your lap.
Due to the setup of the event, there will be no tables; please bring a compact art project that you can complete while seated, in your lap.
Arrival
Preferred arrival: 2:45pm.
We will start on time to respect the meditative environment and time commitment.
Participants will be required to fill out a consent form.
Please take your shoes off inside the front entrance. You are welcome to bring indoor slippers/footwear.
The gallery will be open at 1pm for regular exhibition viewing, and during event setup.
Masked event
Masking is required. KN95 masks will be available for participants at no cost. Should you feel unwell, please take care and stay home.

There are a set number of “pay what you decide” (sliding scale) tickets available to support the accessibility of the event in the community:

Parking
There is a free onsite parking lot. Parked cars will be required to display a pass on the dashboard. Upon arrival, please ask for a parking pass.

Meet the facilitator
Dorothy Karanja is a yoga teacher (RYT 500), sound therapy practitioner, and holographic reiki practitioner and teacher. In her trauma-informed practice, she focuses on sharing holistic Eastern wellness practices, often in accessible and marginalized spaces. She has been practicing fiber arts since she was a child, and has been knitting for over 30 years. For more information, please visit her website: Nourish The Yin.
