Stitch a Bird Sewing Workshop with Sally Amberton at Flock and Gaggle

Make an embroidered bird, with the opportunity to contribute to a community textile project, in a monthly creative session with textile artist Sally Amberton.
Each month will focus on a new stitching technique, building up a bank of stitch knowledge and creating atextile hanging bird, or a feather in fabric and stitch.

Materials to make one bird are included:

• Hand sewing needle
• Thread
• Pins
• Ribbon to hang

Additional materials will be available to purchase as required.

Each session Sally will provide instruction, references, inspiration, guidance and support for a fun and social mornin of creative making.

No experience is necessary. Attend all or any workshops to build up each technique or dip in and out of the programme.

This is an adults only workshop
Spaces are limited so booking is required.

In these sessions there will be an opportunity to work towards a group exhibition of works in Flock and Gaggle showcasing your handsewn birds.

The session will be held at Flock and Gaggle - There will be a variety of hot and cold drinks available to purchase so you can sip and stitch with your new sewing creative community.

If you have any assessibilty needs or allergens please let us know. We have a variety of sitting options including individual seating, benches and chairs with backs so you can be as comfortable as possible while being creative.

Saturday 22nd June: Running Stitch:
Mastering this basic and versatile stitch as a form of embellishement.

Saturday 20th July: Couching:
Taking threads and yarns, stitching them onto a surface for a raised embellishment.

Saturday 24th August: Chain Stitch and Detached Chain Stitch:
Using this historical stitch as a drawing technique to create pattern and shape.

Saturday 21st September: French Knots:
Work with this technique to make surface decoration and use as an applique method.

Saturday 19th October:
Create a more three dimensional effect with this quilting method.
