StillLIFE at 70 Exhibition Opening Night
About this Event
Dr Neville Steer is a photographer and printmaker based in McCrae, Victoria.
Working primarily with digital photography, he produces works using giglée and
intaglio (photogravure) printing. Recently Steer is exploring the original 19th
century photographic printing techniques of cyanotype, platinum and palladium.
His sophisticated lighting and composition from portraiture is applied to still life
and botanical allegories. Steer’s work is characterised by a precise and purposeful
approach to form and texture.
The exhibition “StillLIFE at 70” coincides with his 70th year and
reflects on his life experiences. As a doctor, Steer sensitively applied a
combination of observation, enquiry, intellectual exercise and manual dexterity.
The same blend of skills are evident in his art practice.
