Mohawk presents Still Sounds featuring A Photo Show by Sophia Lawson & Special Guests Wednesday, January 18th!Still Sounds is an intimate retrospective of all things Mohawk through Sophia Lawson’s lens. Her work offers a personal look into the venue’s biggest shows through the intentional use of color and composition while navigating her own connection to live music. Still Sounds will include photos of Japanese Breakfast, Big Freedia, Spoon, Phoebe Bridgers, and more.
The exhibition features 14 framed photographs taken at the iconic Red River venue after its May 2021 reopening. A visual installation of projections and CRT TV walls designed by Phantastic Lights will run alongside the framed works featuring videos and photos taken by Lawson from 2013 – 2022.
A special guest performer will be announced in January. Free pizza provided by our friends at Hoboken Pie.
About Sophia Lawson:
Sophia Lawson is a live music photographer from Austin, Texas. She is a native Austinite and Alum of the University of North Texas College of Visual Arts and Design with a BFA in Printmaking. Her photography has been featured by Texas Observer, Austin Monthly, Austin Music Foundation, The Rustic, and Long Center for the Performing Arts.
Lawson started photographing music ten years ago as a photo intern for Transmission Events and formed a friendship with Mohawk staff to continue shooting at the venue once her internship ended. Her stint as a photo intern eventually led to a marketing internship at Mohawk, and later a marketing management position with the venue in 2014. She is now a freelance photographer and Product Development Coordinator for Four Hands Home.
