About this Event
A defining feature of the still life genre is that it can transform common, inanimate objects into a scene that evokes emotion, conveys a narrative, or makes a statement.
A classical still life involves relatively few (or just one) objects where backdrops, surfaces, and supports tend to be passive actors. A more contemporary approach to still life can involve multiple subjects, diverse textures, or incorporate dynamic background elements. Unlike a tableau, where numerous components are arranged to tell a story, a still life builds drama with the interplay been the object(s) and light/shadow.
What to expect:
- Multiple stations will be set up to allow classical and contemporary still life photography.
- To spark your creativity we will supply a variety of objects such as fruit, vegetables, and flowers.
- To aid with composition there will be a range of backdrops, surfaces, and supports.
- Gear on hand will include lighting, light-boxes, gloves, water spray.
- A light afternoon tea will be provided.
What to bring:
- Your camera (of course).
- Your own tripod (or borrow one from another member).
- If you have interchangeable lenses, consider bringing a prime and a zoom lens. Macro lenses and close-up filters can be fun too.
- Small(ish) objects you might like to include in a still life (avoid anything moist or sticky).
