About this Event
Still Life is more than a drawing class — it’s a pause.
A reminder that in the middle of D.C.’s noise, deadlines, and constant motion, we are still alive. Here, we slow down, breathe, and return to what we can control — our hands, a pencil, and the quiet act of seeing.
Led by artist Jona Monét, this gathering blends art, meditation, and observation. Together we’ll explore the principles of design and the practice of being still in life.
Each session blends demonstration, discussion, and guided sketching — exploring timeless art principles like form, balance, and composition. Participants will learn practical drawing techniques, experiment with new materials, and strengthen their eye for design.
We’ll begin the season studying plants and autumn flowers, using observation and texture to capture the spirit of fall. Expect a calm, creative environment with music, inspiration, and space to connect with other artists.
This series welcomes college students through adults, with middle school participants permitted under parental supervision. All skill levels are encouraged — come to grow your skills, your confidence, and your connection to art.
Select dates will feature live models for figure study, announced in advance.
Ticket Options:
- General Admission: Includes shared materials and still life setup.
- Bring Your Own Materials: Discounted rate for artists with their own tools.
- Live Model Session: Includes model fee and extended guided practice.
Come create, observe, and connect with other artists in a calm, inspiring setting at the Brookland Artspace Lofts.
