About this Event

Join The Marine Mammal Center for an exclusive behind-the-scenes opportunity where you will have the chance to support our hard-working volunteer crews. We will be preparing food for our marine mammal patients and upkeeping kitchen sanitization tasks, allowing you a glimpse into what it is like to be one of our committed animal care volunteers. Our hope is that you leave this event with an increased understanding of patient needs, and some goals for what you can do to support our ocean.

Stewardship Saturday events vary in levels of physical and mental exertion. Please review the entire event description, including accessibility notes, to ensure this event meets your expectations.

We can sign for Community Service hours if you need us to!

Accessibility notes:

  • The Marine Mammal Center is a hospital. There will be no petting, feeding, or hands on interaction with the patients. Diseases can be spread between humans and marine mammals although risks are very low in the kitchen environment.
  • Working and communicating in small groups with youth you may not know
  • Standing for long periods of time
  • Working with hands (ex: handling frozen fish)
  • Using blenders
  • Strong smells present at the Center (fish, seals, sea lions)
  • Note: this event can be tiring – please advocate for breaks and any other needs during the duration of our time together

Free light lunch and snacks will be provided. For lunch we will be ordering from Dominos.

Pizza Options:

  • Cheese
  • Pepperoni
  • In the registration you will also have the option to click that you plan to bring your own lunch.

This event may be cancelled due to weather conditions. We will notify you the week of the event if this happens.

Parking notes:

  • The Center has free parking in our upper and lower lots.
  • Driver note: Adult drivers of youth are welcome to drop youth off and come back at the end of the event, or explore the local area during this time. We do ask that youth attend the events without adults to allow for opportunities to meet others interested in conservation. All organization staff are certified to work with youth.

As a nonprofit organization, The Marine Mammal Center depends on support from ocean lovers like you to rescue and rehabilitate sick and injured marine mammals, conduct critical research, and inspire the next generation to protect our shared ocean.
