Steve Oliver is a multifaceted American guitarist, vocalist, and producer celebrated for his vibrant fusion of contemporary jazz, pop, world music, and electronic textures. Often described as a "sonic alchemist," he is best known for blending acoustic, electric, and nylon-string guitars with innovative guitar synths and his signature melodic vocalese—a wordless vocal style that adds a human element to his rich instrumental arrangements.
Since his breakthrough in the late 1990s, Oliver has become a mainstay on smooth jazz radio, securing multiple #1 Billboard hits and over a dozen Top Ten singles, including fan favorites like "Global Kiss" and "Fun In The Sun".
As a touring musician, Steve has headlined iconic venues and festivals worldwide such as Playboy Jazz Festival, Catalina Island Jazztrax Festival, Mallorca Smooth Jazz Festival in Spain, Seabreeze Jazz Festival, Rehoboth Beach Jazz Festival, Berks Jazz Festival, Newport Beach Jazz Festival, Dave Koz Cruises, Pizza Express London, Yoshi’s Oakland, Thornton Winery Temecula, Scullers Boston, O’Hare Jazz Festival Chicago, Perfect Note Atlanta, Spaghettini Seal Beach, South Jazz Kitchen Philadelphia, Middle C Jazz Charlotte, and many others.
Throughout his career, Oliver has collaborated with legendary musicians such as bassist Leland Sklar and drummer Vinnie Colaiuta. His musical journey began in California, influenced by a diverse mix of progressive rock and jazz icons like Pat Metheny and Wes Montgomery. Beyond his recording career, he is a prolific live performer, headlining major international events like the Mallorca Smooth Jazz Festival and touring globally with his high-energy "musical therapy" shows. He is also a sought-after producer for film and television, recently contributing to the 2022 film Lee’d The Way.
Steve is a versatile force in contemporary jazz, having written for and produced an impressive roster of artists. One of his most significant partnerships is with keyboardist Brian Simpson, with whom he co-wrote and produced the #1 Billboard albums Unified and The Road Never Ends. He is also a frequent collaborator with Grammy-winning pianist Omar Akram and has contributed songwriting and production to hit projects for saxophonists Vincent Ingala and Paul Taylor.
