Program Module:
Parents As Advocate: Being Your Child’s Everyday Advocate.

Session Covers:

  1. Advocating for People with Disability Rights
  2. How to Self-Advocate
  3. What is Civic Engagement
  4. Self-Determination
  5. Using Social Media to Advocate


Program Purpose:

Elevate awareness among families, particularly in BIPOC communities, about the unique impacts of race, gender, and class on individuals with disabilities. Provide culturally competent education and evidence-based resources to address racial biases in care systems.


For over 15 years, Special Needs Network (SNN), one of California’s leading autism advocacy and social justice 501© non-profit organizations, has worked tirelessly to raise public awareness of developmental disabilities and to advance public policy addressing the social, economic, and structural roots of inequity that drive autism-related disparities for families of color.
