Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT) skills are universally beneficial, catering to individuals struggling with substance use, self-harm, disordered eating, anger outbursts, and addictions as well as anyone seeking a life with less unnecessary suffering.

DBT's efficacy is backed by compelling evidence and extensive research, originally developed to aid those with Borderline Personality Disorder (BPD). Today, it has demonstrated remarkable success in assisting individuals facing challenges with emotion regulation, including those dealing with addiction, anxiety, panic, and depression.

At Dialectical Living, we are dedicated to creating an engaging and interactive learning experience. We employ a variety of dynamic teaching methods such as videos, role plays, small breakout groups, games, interactive activities, home practice teams, quizzes, and intimate group discussions. Our DBT group is psychoeducational, which means it's not your typical support group where you sit in a circle and delve deep into your problems. Instead, it's a place where you can acquire valuable life skills and put them into practice every week. Think of yourself as a student in a nurturing and comfortable learning environment, surrounded by individuals who also have challenges with their emotions. Plus, you can look forward to weekly home practice assignments to further reinforce your learning.

Do any of the following fit for you? If so, DBT skills will be beneficial for you.

Do you have difficulties maintaining relationships maybe some/all of your relationships are fraught with intense feelings of judgement, fears of abandonment and rejection?

Do you idealize and devalue your close relationships? This means you love someone one minute and hate them the next.

Do you think in black and white?

Do you have difficulties with substance use, self-harm, disordered eating and/or overspending?

Have you ever felt suicidal? Maybe you think about killing yourself sometimes/often?

Do you have difficulties working or going to school?

Do you experience dissociation? These are times when you lose time or you feel out of your body.

Do you experience emotional pain more than others in your life? It may seem like you are super sensitive to the emotional touch.

Do you find that you take things really personally like when your friend cancels a dinner and you feel that they are cancelling because of something you did/said?

If you have close family members it is a good idea they also learn skills. Here is information and sign up for our Compassion in Chaos Family DBT group, a drop in group Monday evenings.

We also teach these skills in a DBT for Couples format. If you have a partner you can learn together!
