About this Event

The Academic Parity Movement (APM) is a non-profit organization born out of a need for justice, and the protection of students', postdocs', and early career academics' (including junior faculties) most basic human rights within academic institutions. Our group comprises individuals from diverse backgrounds, perspectives, and experiences, united in our mission to combat academic discrimination, violence, and bullying. To achieve this goal, we collaborate with legal professionals, psychologists, researchers, and legislators.

APM's primary objective is to eradicate academic bullying, discrimination, and violence by equipping targets with the necessary tools to assert their basic rights. Throughout history, marginalized groups, including women, people of color, and immigrants, have disproportionately suffered from the amplified societal biases and pressures that can be exacerbated in the academic laboratory setting. Collectively, we must stand together to transform the academic world into an equitable, inclusive, and safe environment.

We are thrilled to announce that we are organizing an in-person edition of the APM conference. The event will take place at the Holiday Inn, Charlotte City Center, Charlotte NC on March 28- March 29, 2024.

Our speakers are:

  • Dr. Michael Lauer; Deputy Director for Extramural Research at NIH
  • Editors of Nature Career and Nature Human Behaviours
  • Dr. Nancy Olivieri (recipient of the 2023 John Maddox prize)
