ETHAN QI
Ethan Qi is a dedicated pianist and competitor from Ottawa, currently studying under the direction of Dr. Chunson Park. He began his piano journey when he was 5, and instantly fell in love with the instrument. Ever since he began to compete in 2018, he has demonstrated unwavering commitment to his craft, participating in competitions annually with remarkable consistency. Ethan's hard work has been consistently recognized, as evidenced by his consecutive 1st place wins in Ottawa starting from 2021. His achievements include trophies such as the Laurentian Junior Music Club Trophy, Mildred L. Creed Memorial Trophy, and the Leon Veira Memorial JS Bach Invitational Trophy, all earned in 2022. In 2023, he managed to clinch the Laurentian Junior Music Club Trophy again, while 2024 saw his feature on CBC News with Alan Neal. Ethan's success extends far beyond regional accomplishments, with notable placements such as 2nd Place in the OMFA Provincial Festival in 2020 and 2022, and a first place victory for the Junior Duets in 2024.
Internationally, Ethan has showcased his talent on various stages across the world. In 2023, he had the privilege of performing in Carnegie Hall at the winner's concert of the Crescendo Competition. Additionally, he received an invitation to perform at the honors concert of the San Francisco International Piano Competition (SFIPC), a significant achievement.
Outside of the realm of music, Ethan is a diligent student at Merivale High School, currently in Grade 11, and possesses a diverse range of interests. He engages in story writing, various volunteering opportunities, absolutely adores traveling to just about anywhere, and can often be spotted at the gym or on a run to fuel his passion for fitness. Despite his generally busy life, Ethan tries to prioritize self-care, cherishing any moment of relaxation he can get.
