Η γκαλερί Ζουμπουλάκη παρουσιάζει τη νέα ατομική έκθεση του Στέφανου Ρόκου με τίτλο «50.000.000 τόνοι τοπίων», από τις 20 Μαρτίου έως τις 17 Απριλίου 2025. Θα παρουσιαστούν έργα μεικτής τεχνικής σε καμβά ή χαρτί, τρία γλυπτά και ένα animation.

Ο Στέφανος Ρόκος σημειώνει:
«Στην καινούργια ενότητα των έργων μου οι 50.000.000 τόνοι τοπίων είναι ένας αφελής και λανθασμένος προσδιορισμός του όγκου, της έκτασης, του βάρους, της επιβλητικότητας και της δύναμης των τοπίων — κυρίως συγκριτικά με τις σύντομες ιστορίες των ανθρώπων, οι οποίες στέκουν άνισες μπροστά σε ένα τεράστιο βουνό ή έναν θορυβώδη ορμητικό καταρράκτη».
Όπως γράφει η καθηγήτρια του ΕΚΠΑ και μεταφράστρια Μαρία Παπαδήμα στο κείμενό της για το βιβλίο της έκθεσης:
«Ποια στιγμή ο άνθρωπος γίνεται μέρος του τοπίου; Όταν το αντικρίζει και μαγεύεται και συγκλονίζεται και θέλει να εισχωρήσει μέσα του, να τρυπώσει μυστικά, να γνωρίσει τις πιο κρυφές του γωνιές, να χαθεί σε κάποια πτυχή του, υπόγεια ή υπέργεια, ή να καταλάβει την πιο κεντρική του θέση, ένα ύψωμα, μια πλατεία, μια γέφυρα, μια πολιτεία ολόκληρη, όπου θα συναντήσει τους όμοιούς του και θα ενωθεί μαζί τους, περνώντας καταρράκτες και βουνά, αραδιάζοντας ή σωριάζοντας οικοδομήματα· επιλέγοντας να ασκήσει πάνω του τα κυριαρχικά δικαιώματα του πλήθους ή να παραμείνει μικροσκοπικός και λανθάνων, μέρος εντέλει έκδηλο ή αδιόρατο του τοπίου».

Τον Φεβρουάριο του 2025, ο Jim Sclavunos και ο Nick Cave ηχογράφησαν το μουσικό έργο “Landscape”, ως πρωτότυπο soundtrack για το Animation “50,000,000 Tons of Landscape”, σε σκηνοθεσία/ιδέα/σχέδια του Στέφανου Ρόκου. Το Animation θα προβάλλεται κατά τη διάρκεια της έκθεσης.

Κατά τη διάρκεια της έκθεσης θα διατίθεται επίσης προς πώληση το βιβλίο «50.000.000 τόνοι τοπίων» που εκδίδεται από τις Εκδόσεις Στερέωμα με αφορμή την έκθεση του Στέφανου Ρόκου. Πρόκειται για ένα δίγλωσσο (ελληνικά/αγγλικά) εικαστικό βιβλίο/λεύκωμα με τα ζωγραφικά έργα και γλυπτά του Ρόκου και κείμενα των Στέφανου Ρόκου, Μαρίας Παπαδήμα (καθηγήτριας ΕΚΠΑ, μεταφράστριας), και Michael Berryhill (εικαστικού). Τα κεφάλαια του βιβλίου συνοδεύονται από ποιήματα της ποιήτριας και μεταφράστριας Δανάης Σιώζιου.
Στη limited edition του βιβλίου (150 σφραγισμένα αντίτυπα) θα περιλαμβάνονται μεταξοτυπίες 20x15 εκ. σε χαρτί Munken Print Cream 300γρ., υπογεγραμμένες και αριθμημένες. Οι μεταξοτυπίες είναι σχεδιασμένες στο χέρι από τον Στέφανο Ρόκο και τυπωμένες από τον Χρύσανθο και Μανώλη Αγγελάκη στο tind atelier για τις Εκδόσεις Στερέωμα και την έκθεση «50.000.000 τόνοι τοπίων» στην γκαλερί Ζουμπουλάκη.

Stefanos Rokos notes:
“In this new series of my works, 50,000,000 Tons of Landscape is a naïve and erroneous definition of the volume, extent, weight, majesty, and power of landscapes —especially when compared to the short human stories, which seem unequal in front of a huge mountain or a thunderous, torrential waterfall”.
As Maria Papadima, professor at the National and Kapodistrian University of Athens and translator, writes in the book “50,000,000 Tons of Landscape” accompanying the exhibition:
“At what point does man become part of the landscape? When he looks at it and is enchanted and overwhelmed and wants to penetrate it, to sneak into it secretly, to know its most hidden corners, to get lost in some aspect of it, underground or above ground, or to occupy its most central position, a hill, a square, a bridge, an entire town, where he will meet his peers and join them, crossing waterfalls and mountains, constructing or demolishing buildings; choosing to exercise over himself the sovereign rights of the multitude or to remain tiny and latent, part, finally, manifest or invisible, of the landscape”.

In February 2025, Jim Sclavunos and Nick Cave recorded the musical work “Landscape” as the original soundtrack for the Animation “50,000,000 Tons of Landscape”, based on the direction, idea and drawings of Stefanos Rokos. The Animation will be on view during the show.

During the exhibition, the book ”50,000,000 Tons of Landscape”published by Stereoma Publishing, will be on sale at the Zoumboulakis Gallery. It is a bilingual (Greek/English) art book with Rokos’paintings and sculptures, and texts by Stefanos Rokos, Maria Papadima (professor at the University of Athens, translator), and Michael Berryhill (artist). The poems at the beginning of the chapters are written by the poet and translator Danae Sioziou.
The limited edition of the book (150 sealed copies) will include 20x15 cm silkscreens on Munken Print Cream 300gsm paper, signed and numbered. The silkscreens are hand- designed by Stefanos Rokos and printed by Chrysanthos and Manolis Angelakis at the Tind Atelier for Stereoma Publishing and the exhibition “50,000,000 Tons of Landscapes” at the
Zoumboulakis Gallery.
