Join us to learn about this father-daughter tale about surviving in an unfiltered America, and connect with likeminded professionals
About this Event

Born in the early 1940s, her father was thrown into a world where he had no choice but to fight in many different arenas, including the boxing ring and the courtroom. He instilled in her his unrelenting drive and will to win. As a result, she went through life with his priceless survival playbook at her side. She became a corporate commercial real estate (CRE) director and dealmaker overcoming adversity to manage billion-dollar real estate portfolios. She also walked the path of a CRE broker.

Based on true stories, join Monica as she narrates her father’s lifelong quest for justice and how it impacted his parenting and subsequently her life. She will take readers on the powerful and poignant journeys of her and her father, covering decades from the 1940s through present day—from Northwest Indiana to New York City and points in between.

Long before the last page, readers will find themselves deeply contemplating their life journey and wishing they had the author and her father somewhere in their personal orbit.

Monica C. Smith is joining us on the Busboys stage alongside Freddie Lewis Archer to share more about her and her father’s journey, and connect and inspire other professionals in her field. Copies of the book will be available for purchase during and after the event, and Smith will be signing following the program.

This event is free and open to all. Our program begins at 6:00 pm, and will be followed by an audience Q&A. Copies of STEEL VICTORIES will be available for purchase before and after the event. Please note that this event is in person and will not be livestreamed.

We ask that guests RSVP in order to receive direct updates about the event from Busboys and Poets Books

Monica C. Smith, a national corporate commercial real estate (CRE) director, who has managed billion-dollar portfolios, dives into the world of publishing, unleashing a hidden natural gift for writing and storytelling, which draws the reader in from the first page and never lets go.

A hard-core science fiction buff since she was a kid, Monica naturally understands the elements of storytelling and blends her vivid and imaginative writing style with her astute corporate business writing skills. This results in a captivating read, and her stories seamlessly land the literary dismount, like a gymnast who performs a perfect 10 double-double dismount on the balance beam.

Monica has closed deals in nearly all fifty states and has also walked the path of a CRE broker. A Purdue University alumna, she comes from a small city in Northwest Indiana and currently resides in the Atlanta metropolitan area. Monica is a world traveler who has also lived in New York City and Chicago. In Steel Victories, Monica is the ultimate tour guide. She effortlessly writes on many topics including the innocence of childhood, adult conflict, business, sports, spirituality, entertainment, and more. She proves she has writing chops and will keep the reader wanting more.

Freddie Lewis Archer has been a commercial real estate broker for more than 35 years, a career which began in New York state. In 1995 she relocated to the DMV working for Smithy Braeden and subsequently for Madison Retail Group. In 2001 she established her own boutique brokerage firm, LRES, LLC T/A Lewis Real Estate Services that provides retail and office transactional and advisory services. LRES has distinguished itself as a boutique firm dedicated to transforming neighborhoods and communities throughout the DMV. Its participation in merchandising and leasing some of the most recognized and iconic mixed-use projects in the region, including City Center DC, The Wharf, City Vista, Eager Park (Baltimore), Skyland and Shops at Park Village speaks to its commitment of understanding and solving problems in emerging neighborhoods or the downtown core of urban cities. From land assemblage to leasing, sales and neighborhood revitalization, LRES brings innovative ideas and a team-oriented approach as it strives to make a positive impact in the marketplace.
