The multi-talented rockers were known as Metal Shop and Metal Skool before changing their name in 2008. Since then, the group has maintained its well-produced metal music parodies and taken its Van Halen-esque show on tour.

The rock group gained notoriety in the 2000s after releasing their debut album Hole Patrol. After the release, Metal Skool appeared on The Drew Carey Show and their cover of the Aldo Nova song “Fantasy” was used as the theme for the MTV program Rob Dyrdek's Fantasy Factory.

The group changed its name to Steel Panther in 2008 and released its first record under the new name in 2009. The album, Feel the Steel, debuted in the top spot on the Billboard Comedy chart and reached number 98 on the Billboard 200. Their next album, Balls Out, also debuted in the top spot on the comedy charts while reaching as high as number 4 on the iTunes Rock chart and number 40 on the Billboard 200.

Steel Panther used the success of its first two records to launch its first headlining tour of the United States in the early 2010s. The group won awards for their live performances, bringing home the Loudwire Music Awards Live Act of the Year in 2012 and 2013.
