2-hour workshop on staying present in charged conversations - trading fight/flight for engaging productively regardless of the circumstances
About this Event

Now more than ever, we often find ourselves at odds with other people about our beliefs, our politics, public policies, national movements – any number of highly charged topics. These differences can feel so deep and insurmountable that communication breaks down, destroying relationships or preventing important work from getting done. But it doesn’t have to be so.

Staying in conversation with people we don’t agree with is a learnable skill. In this 2-hour workshop, you will begin to develop your innate physiological ability to stay grounded and responsive–in your body, your breath, your voice, and your mind – trading a fight or flight mentality for one that allows you to engage productively with others regardless of the circumstances.

From the Workshop Facilitator:

Hello - I’m Jenn Miller Cribbs. The work we will do together in this workshop is rooted in the foundations of presence in our bodies, breath and voice. One half of that presence is the ability to be perceptive and responsive to what is happening around you. The other half is speaking and acting from a place of authenticity, in a way that is seen and heard by others as being authoritative, trustworthy, and open. My clients are federal policymakers, corporate and nonprofit executives, teachers, organizational consultants, community stakeholders in high-poverty neighborhoods, young people and students - the work is the same.

This ability to be present is as primal as our survival instincts to fight, flee, or freeze, yet many of us remain stuck in a cycle of reactivity. When you learn to be truly present in conversation, it will unlock your ability to stay in dialogue and further the work you are seeking to do in the world, even with people with whom you profoundly disagree, revealing previously invisible paths forward in your work and relationships.
