Growth Series 2023 is a series of topics curated by Startup Ecosystem Asia that focus on opportunities, problems and issues faced by technology startups not only in Singapore but across Asia. This is presented through in-personal events.


Embarking on the journey of a technology startup, how can startup founders learn to transform themselves from brick and mortar, leverage on platform thinking and raise funds successfully?

Three speakers are invited to discuss and share their experiences at our hosting partner, Institute of Innovation & Entrepreneurship at Singapore Management University.


Topic 01: From Brick-and-Mortar to Tech-Driven by Mr Emile Dumont

Mr Emile Dumont runs a brick-and-mortar service provider known as The Posture Lab from one-man show to first hires in 18 months, started with ten thousand dollars in the bank account and brought in revenues of 140 thousand dollar in the first year.

During the initial stage of COVID due to social distancing measures and unknown future directions, he did face huge challenges. He embarked his journey into startup ecosystem in Singapore. He overcomed his challenges and pivoted his business model where he has plans to grow his startup further in the post-pandemic era.

Topic 02: The power of digital platforms – how technology start-ups can leverage platform thinking to dominate their industry. by Mr Damien Cummings

The technology startups always disrupt traditional industries that make their industry consolidate over the time and allows the startup to dominate eventually.

Through his perspectives, Mr Damien Cummings introduces the concepts of digital platforms that already exist through the supply and demand-side forces and share right and unique concepts that allow the players in the traditional industries.

He also exams how and why digital platforms have captured almost 70% of the total tech market value and explains how platforms are “winner takes all” in the industry they play in, relegating traditional product, service or software businesses to fight for scraps.

For over six years, Mr Emile Dumont, being an award-winning entrepreneur, has worked with many individuals and organisations on holistic posture education and chronic pain solutions. Posture is only one aspect of a lifestyle, and he brings this approach in the transition to Bodynetic.

Founded in November 2022, Bodynetic’s vision is simple: celebrating the capabilities of everybody, and to keep people moving in life and towards their personal goals.

Mr Emile graduated with Bachelor’s in Exercise and Sports Science from Edith Cowan University. He is also currently advisor to Goalball Society (Singapore) and Dance Advisor to Sheng Hong Arts Institute. Furthermore, he was nominated to Singapore Youth Entrepreneur Awardee in 2021 and Brands for Good Honouree for this year.

Mr. Damien Cummings is the Chief Executive Officer of Inner Circle, an upcoming startup that empower experienced professionals to share right skillsets, knowledge and experience to their peers.


Damien is one of Asia Pacific's most recognised digital transformation leaders. He is highly awarded, being honoured with a Doctor of Philosophy in Management (honoris causa) from KEISIE University, Korea in October 2017. He's also been awarded “Global Top 50 Digital Marketing Leaders 2016”, “Financial Services Marketer of the Year 2016”, “Digital Marketer of the Year 2016”, "Most Influential CMO 2015", "Marketing Professional of The Year 2012" and the "Brand Leadership Award 2011".


Damien is currently the Chief, Digital Strategy & Leadership practice at the National University of Singapore (NUS-ISS). Prior to that he was the founder & CEO of HR tech/SaaS company, Peoplewave Pte Ltd. Before entrepreneurship, he was Global Head of Digital Marketing at Standard Chartered Bank and Chief Marketing Officer at Philips APAC. Damien has also worked at major global brands such as Samsung, Dell, Ogilvy, Coca-Cola and McKinsey & Company.

Mr Mark Koh is the current Secretary General of the Central and Eastern European Chamber of Commerce (Singapore).

He is a serial startup founder for the past twelve years with two successful startup exits. He is also currently served as Advisor To The Board of many startups, thus helping them to grow much better.

He was once the co-founder and Lead Game Designer, VX Global, the founder of Temploy and also the founder of Cheeseshaker.
