Guest speaker: Dr Arash Tayebi
Dr Arash Tayebi is the co-founder and CEO of Kara Technologies, an award-winning accessibility start-up using AI-powered digital avatars to translate content into sign language. A University of Auckland PhD graduate, Arash launched Kara after winning Velocity’s $100k Challenge and progressing through Venture Lab, with support from UniServices. Inspired by his own hearing loss, he’s helping make information more accessible for Deaf communities worldwide. In 2026, Kara was recognised with a New Zealand Hi-Tech Award, highlighting its growing global impact.
