2026 marks the momentous occasion of the United States celebrating 250 years as a nation, and also marks 25 years since the 9/11 terrorist attacks. This September, Slater Memorial Museum of Norwich Free Academy brings to life a display of memories as captured by artist and author Robert Carley. Carley’s documentation of post-9/11 America showcases vivid and meaningful images of the American flag across the country, expressed in dozens of different forms. As one of the most recognizable symbols of American influence across the globe, the American flag has taken on countless iconic forms and styles. This exhibition will feature images, photographs, and 3D models of the nation’s flag as expressed by Americans across the country, and invites visitors to reflect and remember how the nation changed that day 25 years ago.
