Join the NYMR for an evening of stellar exploration with the Whitby and District Astronomical Society. Hosted at our residential centre, The Outstation, located at Stape, we have the perfect spot to see some of the wonderful night sky of the North York Moors.Gaze at some of our neighbouring planets and a sky filled with millions of stars, it will be an evening of excitement and discovery.
There will be a short introduction from Whitby and District Astronomical Society before beginning our journey across the night sky. If the weather happens to be inclement, please don’t be put off. A member of the society will give a talk.
Suitable for adults and families with children aged 10+. For the best experience, we aim to keep our site as dark as possible, so please be aware that the ground may be uneven. Wrap up warm, as cold temperatures are expected. You’re also welcome to bring a red-light torch, as it won’t spoil your night vision, but please avoid using an ordinary torch. If you have binoculars, feel free to bring them along. In the event of poor weather, the session will be adapted and take place indoors.
Facilities including accessible toilets are available on site, though please be aware that The Outstation is in a remote location. Pre-booking is required and we have a limited number of tickets available. You will need to make your own way to The Outstation in time for the event.
This is a pre-booked event, £10 per Adult or Child (10+ yrs).
