In this playful Zentangle® Inspired Art class, we’ll build a striking Folded Star string inspired by Happy Tangling on a rich honeycomb brown tile from The Tangled Yogi, surrounding a dazzling center of brightly colored gems and pearls. Classic Zentangle original tangles create beautiful contrast against the warm tile, while vibrant jewel tones bring the whole piece to life.This class is all about dimension, glow, and that magical moment when your “jewel box” opens to reveal the treasure within. You’ll explore shading techniques that create depth in the folded star and learn how to make your gems look glossy, luminous, and irresistibly real.

NOTES:
The included class kit contains the three pens, two chalk pencils, two tortillons and the tile needed to build the basic composition. To create the luminous gems in the center, you have two options:
Optional Prismacolor Colored Pencil Kit
This add-on kit includes the 17 Prismacolor colored pencils we’ll be using in class to achieve the specific jewel tones shown in the sample tile. Purchase the Optional Prismacolor Colored Pencil Kit separately for $42.50.
The optional kit is not required if:
You bring your own colored pencils, or
You’d prefer to share — we will have five classroom sets available for groups of four to alternate colors.
If you’d like to purchase your own pencils elsewhere, here are helpful guidelines:
A 24-count Prismacolor set (currently approximately $24.99 at Target) would likely provide enough color variety to complete up to four gems. The colors may differ slightly from ours, but beautiful results are absolutely possible.
A 36-count Prismacolor set (currently approximately $37.99 at Target) will include all the colors needed — plus extras for future projects.
We will send the color swatch upon registration so you can select your colors.
Prismacolor pencils are also available at Michaels and Hobby Lobby, though Target currently has the best pricing.
If you would like us to order the 17-pencil kit for you, please submit your order on our website by April 10 to allow time for ordering and delivery.
Final Note:
This is a 4-hour class with a short built-in lunch break. We will have our usual popcorn and cookies snacks available, bringing a more hearty snack or lunch is encouraged!
Pre-requisite: Zentangle Beginner Class with a Certified Zentangle Teacher.
