And so we come to what many consider to be one of the crowning achievements of all horror- Stanley Kubrick’s adaptation of Stephen King’s 1977 hit horror novel The Shining.
When struggling writer and on the wagon alcoholic Jack Torrance gets offered the job as winter caretaker of the remote Overlook Hotel, he needs to take it. He brushes aside the unsettling revelation that a caretaker only a decade before had gone crazy in the long snowy winter and killed his entire family with an ax in the hotel.
But when Jack, wife Wendy (Duvall), and son Danny (Lloyd) begin their stay, strange things start to happen. Danny has “the Shining” the ability to see and hear things no one else can. And the hotel begins to speak to him…
Kubrick proved there wasn’t a genre who couldn’t do better than anyone else with The Shining- an American horror classic. Kubrick, in his meticulous fashion, researched and studied the uncanny, the paranormal, the unexplainable, and suffused his movie with an irreducible, unexplainable dread that made the audience feel they were actually experiencing the haunted terrors of a haunted place.
Come watch this horror cinematic classic in the 1931 Los Angeles movie palace-which may have some ghosts and supernatural elements of its own. Then stay for the 1030p afterhours afterparty. . .if you dare.
1030p HALLOWEEN-O-THON 2026 HAUNTED AFTER HOURS AFTER PARTY (21+). Will you see the ghost of the LA Theatre’s 1st 1930’s projectionist Charlie Meadows who has occasionally been seen every decade since his death haunting the theater? Maybe. Maybe not. But you will have an incredible Halloween party. Come in costume, enjoy full bars on several levels of the theater, food trucks, a food court, a DJ, dancing, spooky tours of the theater’s haunted nooks and crannies, a haunted VIP room, costume contests, and more.
We have your Halloween taken care of in one of LA’s greatest opera houses for cinema. This is the way you celebrate Halloween.
Full bar, food trucks, and the food court open all night — pay as you go, so bring a card.
