About this Event
Society idealizes smallness in women. We're taught to be quiet, submissive, demure. From fairy tales to movies, the images we're fed growing up are all of women looking up into the eyes of their bigger and taller lovers. The lovers can scoop these women up into their arms!
The expectations of the world we live in affect us deeply and, often, the extent of that conditioning stays hidden, even from ourselves. The narratives around women and taking up space are changing but cognitive freedom is not enough, these ideals live in our bodies. They impact the way we stand, move, speak.
Also, conditioning aside, you have lived your whole life with a body that is outside the norm. You are not the average female height. You have been a head or more taller than all your girlfriends, you have looked down (or straight) at the men you have known.
Do you know how all of this impacts you? You probably know things you love and hate about being tall, but do you feel, in your body, how your tallness impacts the way you feel about yourself and the people in your life (friends, lovers, authority figures)? As the old adage goes: you can't change what you can't see.
This workshop is an invitation to slow down and explore the experience of tallness together. Life is too short (and too long) to not live fully and proudly in the bodies we have.
*The workshop will consist of movement exercises, discussions, experientials and guided meditations.
*Wear comfortable clothes and bring a water bottle, journal and pen.
*There is no height requirement to join. If you consider yourself a tall woman, you're welcome.
* Participants also receive a free, one hour, one-on-one Core Energetics session with the facilitator, to be booked at a later date, if desired (valued at $100 CAD).
About your facilitator
Hi, I'm Alexia. I'm 5'10 and wear a size 12 shoe. Recently, I uncovered that I was living my life pretending I was 5'4 (the average height of Canadian women). The ways I was doing this were subtle, but they created a lack of coherence in my lived experience, which translated as a constant background of mild disatisfaction. The more I learn to live fully as my 5'10 self, the more satisfaction, pleasure and empowerement I experience. This workshop was born from my desire to share this shift with other tall women.
I'm also a somatic therapist in training. I'm in my fourth year of studies to become a certified Core Energetics practitioner. Core Energetics is a psychotherapeutic modality that combines talk therapy with movement and voice exercises to ensure that psychological blocks held in the body are effectively addressed. Core Energetics has helped me connect to myself in a very deep way, and I'm passionate about teaching others the tools that worked for me. To learn more about me, visit allofyoutherapy.ca.
This workshop is being offered as part of a community service requirement for my fourth year of training in Core Energetics.
