Hope is not the denial of painful history.
Hope is the willingness to face history honestly while believing it still has something to teach us.
It is the quiet conviction that understanding another person’s story can soften hearts, broaden perspectives, and awaken our shared humanity.
Standing On Sacred Ground™ was created from that conviction.
Together, we journey through places that have witnessed both profound suffering and extraordinary courage—from Savannah and The Weeping Time to Andersonville, Montgomery, and Selma. We do not come merely to learn dates and events. We come to encounter the lives of people whose stories continue to shape our own.
As experiential educators, we believe that when we slow down, bear witness, ask thoughtful questions, and reflect together, history becomes more than something we remember. It becomes something that transforms us.
Our hope is not that every participant will leave thinking the same way.
Our hope is that each person will leave seeing one another more fully, listening more deeply, and carrying a renewed commitment to live with greater integrity, compassion, and courage.
Peace cannot grow where hope has been abandoned.
But wherever people are willing to listen with open hearts, tell the truth with humility, and remain present with one another, hope begins to take root.
