What this is
This is not a loud book club. It’s a quiet container—a calm, intentional space where coffee enthusiasts can finally sit down and read Standart without distractions, surrounded by people who value the same slow ritual.
What is Standart?
Standart is an independent magazine about specialty coffee and the people behind it. We have no commercial association with Standart, but I’ve been a huge fan of their authentic stories for years.
- Beautiful long-form stories, interviews, and photo essays
- Great for slow reading, reflection, and coffee inspiration
- You can read a shared copy provided at the event or bring your own
What to expect
- A silent reading space that makes it easier to focus
- Like-minded community (working baristas + home brewers)
- A gentle structure that solves the real problem: “I never find time to read.”
- Drink as a complimentary part of the experience
Format (60 minutes)
- 5 min — Welcome + how the hour works
- 30 min — Silent reading (Standart)
- 15 min — Optional discussion (Share only if you feel called to. No pressure to speak—silence is always respected.)
- Last few minutes — Soft socializing + closing
Guidelines (to protect the quiet)
- You’re welcome to bring your own copy of Standart if you have one, or one will be provided.
- If you come with friends, please maintain silence during the reading portion to respect everyone’s quiet reading moment.
- This is a phone-silent space during the reading portion.
- Please don’t write or mark on the Standart magazine.
- Talking is welcome only during the discussion + closing social minutes.

About the host
This session is hosted by Praveen Ponraj, the founder of Fika, Climate Wave Coffee, and Shady Booch. Praveen is a coffee artist and educator focused on slow living, mindfulness, and sustainability across the coffee value chain.
Fika is both a café and a learning space—designed for quiet rituals, thoughtful conversation, and community. This reading club is an invitation to slow down, make time for what matters, and connect with others who care about coffee culture beyond the cup.
