In this single session class you will learn all the steps involved in making stained glass work while making your own custom flower holder!With this workshop you will have a chance to learn about the basics of building stained glass by putting together a 10 piece heart design. In this class we will cover: - cutting glass - shaping glass using a glass grinder - working exactly with a pattern - copper wrapping/foiling - soldering - wrapping lead cane -using textured glass
-applying a spray finish
This workshop is simple enough for beginners but it is recommended that you be interested in learning the process. The session will involve educating you on all the steps, using the tools, and assembling a stained glass piece. The reason this isn’t great for total newbs is because you really will be making this yourself.
This is a class where you will learn everything you need to know on how to make stained glass in the future if you wanted. Or it's a fun and involved activity to complete in an afternoon! If you would like to choose your colors please show up to class 30 minutes early. We will not have much time to make changes to colors once class has begun so we will have pre assembled sets of colors for anyone that does not arrive at 12:30pm
A 30 minute break is optional. Waterfront Gourmet is located next door to the pier on Columbus Blvd if you would like to grab something from the deli. Otherwise Cherry Street Pier often has food trucks and an internal bar for drinks available all day, or we advice eating ahead of your event since many people will enjoy working their piece from start to finsih with no breaks. In the event that you’d rather hang out & chat while working: if you don’t finish your piece, you can come back during on of Cassie's scheduled open studio hours to finish your piece.
You’ll have the opportunity to choose your glass colors (if you arrive early), wrap your pieces, and spend a lot of time with a personal solder to attach them together. This is a beginners project but you will learn all the steps involved in stained glass work. We will be working with lead cane to finish our pieces. Lead cane is not toxic to touch but feel free to bring protective gloves if you are especially sensitive or concerned.
While working, your instructor is happy to share all the best websites and shops to help guide you towards building your own stained glass studio. Come with questions if you’re looking to continue the glass journey, or show up just for the experience. No previous knowledge necessary, but you should be committed to doing the process if you are completely beginner :-D
The Location: This event is held at The Craft Coven's space in Cherry Street Pier. Plan to arrive a bit early because the pier is a large space. We are located in studio 14 on the second floor. Unfortunately there are no elevators to the second floor. You will need to go up a very large flight of steps to get to the second floor. The space is heated/cooled inside the pier and there are bathrooms located on site (on the first floor). There are often installations and events around the pier, and the larger space is open from 12-8pm everyday. Look at their events HERE to see what else will be going on in the space that day.
