A Beginners One-Day
Stained Glass Workshop
with Madeleine Hellier
Friday 21st November
Stained glass is one of the oldest and most traditional of crafts dating from the 11th century. During this one day workshop (10am – 4pm) participants can expect a short introduction to the history of stained glass and stained glass techniques using the stained glass of the Highlanes Gallery as a reference point.
You will will then make your own stained glass suncatcher while acquiring all of the skills needed to continue in this most traditional of crafts.
Materials Provided:
Each participant will have their own 'bench' comprising glass, tools and supplies required for the session. The suncatchers are finished by soldering individual elements together and applying patina and findings.
Outcomes:
This practical, hands-on course will give you the foundational skills needed to create a stained glass suncatcher including:-
· Health & Safety in glass practice
· Introduction to Stained Glass techniques
· Stained glass tools and bench materials
· Glass cutting techniques
· Applying copper foil
· Stained glass pattern design
· Soldering
· Patinating and finishing
The day session moves at a relaxed pace and is the perfect analogue antidote in a digitally charged world.
Session Numbers are limited to a maximum of 7 attendees.
Day Ticket: €30 plus booking fee.
About: Madeleine Hellier is a glass artist who has been working with glass for more than 20 years. She has a small studio in her home in Marino and where she works mostly to commission. Madeleine has participated in numerous exhibitions in Ireland, Northern Ireland and China including Talbot Studios and Gallery, Sculpture in Context, Craft Gallery NI and City Assembly House. As an invited artist Madeleine has participated in the outreach programmes of the Hugh Lane Gallery and earlier this year, here at Highlanes Gallery.
